Travel to Colorado for the Gap Year
Our program begin at 3 PM. We will have a pick up in Denver (leaving Denver airport at 11 AM so arrive no later than 10:30) and in Glenwood Springs at 2 PM. You can also meet us at the HDC in Paonia between 3-5pm (please do not arrive before 3pm). Once you've made your travel arrangements, please send us an email to let us know where to expect you.
Please travel light. You really don't need a lot of stuff beyond what's on the packing list to be happy here. Your backpack and a small travel bag are just right. Any more is extra weight and clutter in your sleeping cabin.
While the easiest way to get here is to fly to Denver and get picked up, we'd like to challenge you to do otherwise, especially if you live in the U.S. and you've already traveled on an airplane. This gap year is about adventure, learning, and interacting directly with people and places. It's why we are choosing to go overland to Guatemala instead of in an airplane, and it's why we're asking you to seriously consider some other kind of travel, like:
- Take the bus to Glenwood Springs. If you travel across the country on the Greyhound it will probably get you out of your comfort zone and you will see important aspects of our country that you won't see in an airport.
- The Amtrak to Glenwood.
- Rideshare. Coordinate with another participant who lives in your region or find a rideshare on the internet.
- Ride your bike. It's been done!
If you're up for the challenge, we'd love to support you in getting to Colorado by one of these other means. If you can't swing it, no big deal, no judgement. We're excited to get together. We will follow up as the time comes near about exact pick-up locations.
The final date of the fall semester is November 21. If you know that your Winternship plans will take you home and want to make round trip travel arrangements we ask that you make plans that depart from Denver after 2pm.
